About Our Project

Dedicated to documenting and preserving the unique sounds of turtles

Our Mission and Ethics

At the Turtle Sounds Database (TSD), we believe that open science and wildlife conservation go hand in hand. Our goal is to support research, protect turtles and their habitats, and encourage global collaboration through the sharing of acoustic data.

We are committed to:

  • Respecting the rights and choices of data contributors, including how and when their recordings are shared.

  • Protecting sensitive information, like the exact locations of endangered species.

  • Ensuring that all data is used ethically for science, conservation, and education only.

  • Crediting the people behind the recordings in all uses of the data.

  • Preventing misuse, including activities that could harm wildlife.

We offer tools for contributors to control how their data is shared, and we work closely with conservation organizations to ensure this platform helps, not harms, turtle populations.

Together, we can use sound to protect silence in nature.

Connect with us

We're continuously expanding our database of turtle sounds and species information. Our team works with biologists, conservationists, and technology experts to develop innovative recording techniques and analysis methods.
